What We Do
The Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Collaborative Research on Sorghum and Millet focuses on supporting our partner countries to drive resiliency through research, human and institutional capacity development, and technology delivery.
The SMIL management team works closely with country coordinators and country-level teams in each focus country to maximize resources for the in-country teams and expand their authority to manage research and innovation delivery on short-, mid-, and long-term timelines.
SMIL develops global networks that leverage key capacities towards strategic short- and long-term research needs that allow sorghum and pearl millet to be more valuable.
Research
We take the tools available to our partners and identify opportunities from seed to plate to enhance sorghum and millet to make it more viable and valuable in our focus countries.
Human and Institutional Capacity Development (HICD)
We partner our country leads to identify and leverage opportunities to bring a global network of skills and research tools to support countries in their development of research, technology deployment, economic opportunities and improved household nutrition.
Technology Development & Delivery
A technology pipeline is in place with continuous development and feedback of technologies moving to scalable uptake from Phase 1 under research (ideation) to Phase 4 demonstrated uptake (commercialization / scaling).
